Work At Height : Awareness : 1 Day

Courses run on demand.

OVERVIEW
This course is designed to introduce delegates to the principles and equipment involved in modern working at height systems. In the UK, in the 5-year period from 1996 to 2001, we have suffered 400 deaths and 28,000 major injuries as a result of falls from a height. Many of these accidents could have been avoided through awareness training and appropriate equipment selection. This course is the foundation for a 3-part scheme, the elements of which can either be taken separately or timed to run consecutively.

Risk assessment
Anchor point and rigging equipment
Fall arrest equipment
Work positioning equipment

A Quick Word About Hands-free Lifting!

Just like flying, the most hazardous parts of a lifting operation are lifting off and landing therefore at these critical stages, personnel must be as far away from the load as possible in case something does go wrong. To ensure this happens, it is essential to adopt a “hands-free” lifting policy that is rigidly adhered to.

However, There will always be certain jobs which will require “hands-on” for final positioning but these should be treated as exceptions to the norm and as such, fully addressed in the risk assessment process paying special attention to the risk of injury to fingers and hands, and toes and feet.
