Now recognised as industry best practice
NSL, in association with the Oil & Gas UK workgroup for the Safe Packing and Handling of Cargo to and from Offshore, have developed a modular eLearning training programme.
You say you want a revolution...
The oil industry’s need for up-to-date training materials is insatiable, and we are always hearing about people who are bored to the point of falling asleep while watching safety videos that can be twenty years old or more. NSL aim to change all that with a major new investment in 3D animation technology.
Confined Space Entry & Rescue
NSL have designed and installed a state-of-the-art Confined Space training module at their Aberdeen Training Centre. The module incorporates sophisticated, up-to-date technology to enhance the level of training provided to delegates. The module has realistic work-based scenarios and also allows for many different emergency situations to be recreated in a safe and controlled environment. As well as having 'Hazard Rooms' and audible alarm systems, training is enhanced by the use of infra-red cameras which record all activities in real time. The infra-red cameras provide accurate and in-depth feedback to delegates, a hard copy of which can be provided to the delegates.

‘Short-Run’ Customised Accident Prevention Handbooks.
We are now able to offer customised handbooks with order quantities from as low as 200 handbooks. Options for customisation include bespoke, client branded cover design, a safety message or campaign statement inside, or even a full edit of the content to suit your company or a specific campaign you are running.
New Interactive Training Tool to help turn students into the new generation of oil workers.
NSL are in the final stages of developing an interactive training tool delivered in the style of an interactive game. It is aimed at giving students a taste of what working in the Oil and Gas Industry is all about. Students visit a virtual offshore oil platform, look around the various modules and complete some of the tasks they might be asked to perform whilst working offshore.
NSL have formed a new working relationship with the winch company, Thern.
Thern have developed and produced a new type of man-riding winch, which has a double drum, double wire and double pulley system providing constant tension control, which can be set to suit the weight of the rider.
Tear your hair out no more!
‘ Are you fed up trying to find the right training course and being told what you CAN have as opposed to what you really want and need? ’
It's a 50/50 choice ... or is it?
DON'T USE NSL FOR TRAINING ...
... if you are happy just to meet the industry minimum standards
... if you just want to tick boxes in your training matrix
Training the world - improve and standardise

Another first for NSL in Lifting Operations
For too long, lifting operations, in ALL industries, have been underestimated in their importance. NSL feel lifting operations haven’t been given the respect they deserve, i.e. the attention of highly qualified personnel to try and reduce the amount of accidents and incidents, especially in the offshore oil and gas industry, once and for all.
But not just ANY graduate engineers! We are looking for engineers that hopefully have experience in cranes and lifting or at least an avid interest in lifting operations.
With lifting operations still at the forefront of serious accidents in our industry, there is a strong case for paying special attention to this area of activity and creating a set of controlling procedures to ensure that only the appropriate lifting equipment is used, is maintained correctly and used safely.
The latest version of the International Safe Cargo Handling - Good and Bad Practice Handbook has just been released. It has a fresh new cover, improved graphics and contains additional information such as the “Non-Conformance Codes” featured in the UK Oil and Gas - “Guidelines for the Safe Packing and Handling of Cargo to and from Offshore Locations”. It also contains a table of the hazard labels encountered when handling dangerous goods and a completely new section on “Hands-free Lifting”.
The IADC Conference in Houston, and our Broussard Training Facility Open Day have now come, and gone.
